Even if you don’t have a theme for your kids birthday parties, that doesn’t mean filling a favor bag has to be hard. You do have to be sure you make some that are for girls and some that are for boys. Though both will like some of the same things, there are different things made specifically for each. You could add some play rings and necklaces for the girls, and maybe some matchbox size cars for the boys. Those things seem cliché, but they do work and are often just right for both. Also remember to limit the amount of sugary snacks you include. Many parents aren't thrilled to see a favor bag full of candy, though a few pieces should be okay.

If you give them out during the party, you run the risk of the children losing interest in the party and diving into the bags. That is why most parents prefer to give them out at the end of the party. That way the children will participate in the party, and they'll have something to do on the way home after a long day. They also have less of a chance of losing half of what's in the bag.
