Baby sheets can come loose and wrap around the neck or the head and cause it to suffocate. This is why it's essential to have the right size, and this also means that used sheets are probably not a good idea to buy. They may have been stretched out of shape and the elastic may not be as good as it once was.
There are different sizes of baby sheets, and some have to be hand or specially made. Anything that goes in a bassinet must fit the tiny mattress securely, and these might be hard to find. Most baby sheets come in standard crib size, but when purchasing a special crib, it's important to know how easy it will be to find sheets that will fit an odd shaped mattress. Though the corner style crib seems very cute, it might be hard to get baby sheets for it. The same can be said for mattresses that are much thicker than others. Though the initial buying of baby sheets might be a bit costly, the good news is that in many cases they are something that can be used long after the baby has grown out of the crib. The toddler sized bed mattress usually is the same size as the crib, and some cribs even turn into a bed for a toddler. A child might not be in this size for very long, but they can possibly sleep in this size until age five. After that a twin bed mattress will be needed, and of course, more sheets.
